Obverse: An Uncrowned Effigy of the Sovereign.
Reverse: A representation of an eagle with outstretched wings, surmounted by a Royal Crown encircled by the inscription "FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT".
Size: 36mm in diameter.
Ribbon: 32mm wide, the left half of the ribbon is dark blue with a 4mm white stripe at the outer edge, while the right half is crimson with a 4mm white stripe at the outer edge.
Suspension: By an ornate non-swiveling bar.
On 9th May, 1985, Queen Elizabeth II approved the creation of this new long service award for airmen and non-commissioned officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force who have completed fifteen years' service. The award was backdated to 1st December, 1977. Bars may be awarded upon completion of a subsequent similar period of service.
Any airman who is commissioned after having served in the ranks for twelve years of more, may receive the award upon completion of the full period of service.
Prior to 1985, members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force were awarded the Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, awarded for eighteen years service.
